cognitive simulation games
general semantics
game
game has several meanings; reviewing thefreedictionary.com, there are more than one specific meaning for the word game. The main meanings to the nynsuha scheme are: An activity providing entertainment or amusement, a pastime; a period of competition or challenge; strategy. nynsuha develops games which are not gambling: (juegos de azar, in Spanish) the activity of playing a game for stakes or betting on an uncertain outcome.
another term related: entertainment does not mean non-serious, necessarily. People who work and have a job in the entertainment and/or casino-gambling industry, It is a serious activity work or job. Leisure and/or having fun is part of a learning path in a pasive and/or active way being at work and/or in free time. However, having fun depends: on what a person likes and not inherently, and on a specific situation or circumstances that she or he is going through at certain time.
regarding video games are about warfare and/or princesses-dragons, zombies among other storytelling types with high level of components of sci-fi and/or fantasy, it does not mean that they do not have quality and hard-serious work behind them (many of them, not all). Therefore, the term serious games is not considered to be mentioned or to be used. The use of that term has a significant semantic and epistemic bias.
on the other hand, a context of the word game in the pejorative sense, when someone has evasive and/or manipulative attitude, and he/she is playing around, some sentences such as: “What are you doing without commenting on what is being achieved in reality?... what is your game?”, or “Stop playing around almost all the time and get on with your duties!.. you think that life is a game,?”. Another scenario is for instance, "Healthcare startups are a long run game...", meaning that that kind of startups are not an easy and short time organizational management and business. As to strategy-decision making, one can do it in (many) traditional video games, and in the formal context of the subject of theory of games, as academic and/or corporate research and/or as regards taking the course game theory in the economics program at an university or college.
cognitive simulation games
simulation games:
representation or model of a system or process(es), factors, elements and agents in space and time. The graphic design, programming, dynamics, outputs, and/or outcomes do not need to be aligned to reality as much as possible. Hypothetical data/info, sci-fi and/or fantasy are allowed.
● cognitive simulation games:
cognitive: of, characterized by, involving, or relating to cognition.
cognition:
1. The mental process of knowing, including aspects such as awareness, perception, reasoning, and judgment.
2. That which comes to be known, as through perception, reasoning, or intuition; knowledge.

cognitive simulation games are simulation games which can be used as an entertainment and cognitive and/or educational purposes to assess directly and/or indirectly: decision-making, performance, and/or learning.
this not only depends on the composition of the CSG but the taste and/or moment of a person as well. Although, it is not specified the word educational in the acronym CSG, in the case of nynsuha, the CSG are for cognitive-educational purposes in which the entertainment aspect is optional according to the time or moment and/or if a person likes it or not. inherently.
Two sub-categories/types:
● cognitive simulation geogames (CSGG),
cognitive models with emphasis on geo and/or social and/or socioeconomics activities, processes, aspects/issues, and they (models) are location-based dynamics.
● cognitive simulation games (CSG), cognitive models which are not in geo and/or social-economics sciences or with few or non-predominant geo/social-economics processes, activities, aspects/issues, and they are non-location-based dynamics.
traditional version of monopoly game (physical/board game or digital) is a case of cognitive simulation game (CSG).
location-based dynamics means (here): dynamics in an Euclidean space, a two- or three-dimensional space in which the axioms and postulates of Euclidean geometry apply; space in any finite number of dimensions, in which points are able to be designated by coordinates (one for each dimension) and the distance between two points is given by a distance formula. In addition, a cardinal system might be set up without affecting the sense and coherence of the model, and independently if it is necessary to play the model or not and/or if the cardinal system, at least e.g, the (hypotethical) North, is shown or not on the screen. making clear that cognitive silmulation games is referring to the general category or to the sub category, It depends on the context of the text and/or conversation. However, expliicit clarification can be needed in certain situations, for instance: "cognitive simulation game(s) which is not a geo model" (referring to CSG sub-category).
The acronyms will be used referring to certain specific sub-categories and that It does not conflict when one is referring to a model type as a general reference.
CSGG and CSG do not need to simulate the reality as much as possible; sci-fi and/or fantasy is allowed.
in CSGG, CSG, agent-based simulation, (pure) simulator, the operator or player needs to know that instruction is required (before and as the time goes by) and that playing is part of the learning process.
In the strict sense: CSGG and CSG are not video games as category but video simulation games instead. The line is: (video) simulators (but almost never it is called: video simulators), then in the middle are (video) simulation games, and then video games; although the 3 classes share several features between them. The sub-types of video simulation games are: (video) cognitive simulation games , (video) cognitive simulation geogames, and just (video) simulation games (those which are not cognitive and/or geo). Nevertheless, the terms video game(s) as well as the terms such as geogame(s) and simulation game(s) can be used as alternative as to a quick reference.
despite existing some semantic and functional differences between the terms cognitive and educational, the word educational is not mentioned in the term CSG, it is for practical purposes. In addition, a model can be cognitive and educational, but if it is educational the SG is not or might not be called or be labeled considered cognitive necessarily. Specific educational components can be added in the models in the development process or different versions. Therefore, considering a model educational does not mean that all or a lot of info/data can be in the model yet (in certain version).
● cognitive games (CG)
e.g. chess game and tic tac toe game.
● simulation games (SG)
models which do not emphasize on cognitive assessment and performance, they are not in geo and/or social-economics sciences or with few or non-predominant geo/social-economics processes, activities, aspects/issues, and they are location-based dynamics, they are just simulation games (subcategory). There are some video games or simulation games that despite not emphasizing on cognitive performance, it does not mean that they do not have cognitive load or cognitive aspects.
● geogames: games as a general reference in models which emphasize on geo and/or social sciences, and they are location-based dynamics. In the case, it is considered that a model is a geogame and It does not emphasize on assessing cognition (decision-making and/or performance and/or learning), it would be a subcategory just as geogame (GG).
● simulation geogames (SGG)
subcategory of geogames which do not emphasize on cognitive assessment or performance; or as a general or quick reference for cognitive simulation geogames, this depends on the specific context one is referring to or one is talking about.
nynsuha cognitive simulation models are focused on heuristic simulation/modeling, what is necessary, feasible in a scalable process; not pursuing to detail objects, actions, activities and processes as much as possible.
storytelling videos
videos to tell stories such as ancestral, cultural, community and others, sci-fi, and/or fantasy contexts are allowed. In nynsuha, short storytelling videos (SSV). As to "short" here, it means between 5 and 9 minutes long. Script(s) for longer video(s) are planned too. The component of storytelling can be included in CSGG and CSG
(pure) simulation
the respective framework is based on models to simulate the reality as much as possible and feasible. There are different types of (video) simulation models such as flight simulator (pilot training), car-driving simulation (pilot training), war/combat simulator (soldiers training) among others. At nynsuha, one case is modeling spatial randomness appropriately, using quantitative and qualitative analysis (under initial development).
